BIGFund is a revolutionary seeding ground that aims to grow ideas that are still in their infancy to something BIGGER than what others believe it could possibly be. This ideation and incubation lab is launched targeted exclusively for current students and alumni of ERC Institute, and is not for the faint-hearted; it is only for those who are not afraid to make their craziest ideas and dreams a reality, and to support and make these visions an actuality. SGD 1 million has been set aside to fund these projects that are beyond. Nestled within BIGFund is also a vibrant community / collective of mentors, corporate industry friends and esteemed business partners who provide guidance and support to successful applicants so that the potential of all BIG ideas are maximised and reached. At BIGFund, go BIG – we only want to make the craziest ideas take flight.

BIG Mentors & Partners

BIGFund, the latest ideation and incubation initiative, was created to help all budding and passionate creators who are bold and brave enough to dream BIG, to achieve their wildest start up ambitions. The BIGFund team believes that in order to make these BIG ideas even BIGGER, fresh entrepreneurs need the guidance and expertise of successful entrepreneurs. The combination of fresh ideas from new creators, and experience from competent entrepreneurs will make BIG ideas take flight in ways that have not been thought possible.

Meet our group of mentors with extensive experience in all walks of life, as well as a wide variety of industries.


External Mentors:

Barry has had comprehensive experience in quality assurance, especially in the education industry. Some of his successes include re-organizing and restructuring organizations for productivity enhancement. As the founder of EduValue, Barry has conceptualized Quality Assurance in a way different from his Competitors and has also led its growth to become one of Singapore’s largest firm that specializes in Quality Assurance for Schools. Currently managing over 20 Schools, EduValue has plans to continually re-vitalizing the Education Sector through new initiatives like the EV Network and the concept of Paperless Schools.

Felix Lian Voon Keng is currently the Regional Managing Director in Klingspor Pte Ltd. He has more than 15 years of APAC management experience as Head of Sales; Marketing Lead and General Manager with US & European MNC and has a track record in start-up, turnaround and market leaders of industrial & consumable products in manufacturing, building construction, cleaning & sanitation industries. Notwithstanding that, He is also an expert in business expansion planning and execution, financial management, controlling and corporate governance of sales companies and distribution centers with in depth knowledge of Asian work culture, processes and ethics as well as well verse in SAP business analytics and demand forecasting. Felix armed himself with a MBA in Strategy from Nanyang Technological University and a Bachelor of Commerce (Marketing) from Curtin University of Technology.

Francis is the founder of IFIS Asia Holdings Pte Ltd since 2004. IFIS is a Singapore based company with business interests in Bangkok, Jakarta, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur and Manila. Prior to founding IFIS, Francis has extensive experience in the FinTech industry with multinational companies - Thomson Reuters, Singapore and CSK Software, AG. Francis has over 20 years’ experience in the financial services sector and has driven the successful adoption of technology solutions in e-Trading for Equities, Datafeed Integration, Regional Order Routing, Wealth and Asset Management Systems in the Asia Pacific financial markets. Francis earned Bachelor’s degree of Commerce with Specialisation in Marketing from University of Western Sydney and is also a member of Singapore Institute of Directors and currently sits on the board of two other companies. He recently completed a Mobile and Web programming course with NUS Institute of System Science.

Jonathan is a partner at Rajah & Tann Singapore LLP, the Singapore National Law Firm of Year 2017 at Chambers Asia Pacific Awards, and he heads the firm’s SME-focused practise group, Rajah & Tann Business Fundamentals (RTBF) which provides tailored advice, documentation, support and solutions for start-ups and SMEs. He has over a decade of corporate litigation and advisory experience helping clients navigate and resolve disputes by employing interest-based negotiation strategies and rigorous litigation when required; Jonathan is an Associate Mediator of the Singapore Mediation Centre and the State Courts Centre for Dispute Resolution. He frequently delivers training seminars and talks on topics such as navigating director / shareholder relationships and dispute prevention strategies, commercial negotiation, alternative dispute resolution, employment law and legal issues for SMEs to law students, clients as well as organisations like the Singapore Corporate Counsel Association and at public forums.

Lars is an experienced global communications and business professional with over 15 years expertise in growing, managing and defending leading brands’ reputation from an in-house and agency perspective. He runs PRecious Communications out of Singapore, a regional integrated, strategic communications consultancy that works with young brands and startups as well as global market leaders. Based on his strong background in business development, integrated communications and team leadership, he drives impactful communications strategies that contribute to companies’ growth objectives. Lars has worked with some of the most exciting brands in their respective industries, incl. AT&T, Bundesliga, Citi, Coca Cola, DBS, Evernote, Fidelity Investments, Huawei, Intel Security, Lenovo, Porsche, P&G, Standard Chartered Bank, Yahoo!.

Michael has done extensive work with both American ice cream and Italian gelato, having done both formal courses and worked with ice cream makers from Italy and the US. In a renown US course in Pennslyvania, Michael graduated among the top 10% of the class and went on with working in creameries there and in Manhatten. Michael has also helped with the setup of local gelateria in Singapore. Michael is the owner of Papitto gelato, which has been providing gourmet gelato and ice cream to hotels and F&B business for over ten years.

Richard is a consultant with over 20 years of experience in financial services, primarily in Asia, and also works as a freelance writer for Today, gtnews and other publications. He has worked in retail banking in California, the diplomatic corps and Citibank in Japan. After moving to Singapore in 1992, he worked for MasterCard, Keppel TatLee Bank and OCBC Bank. At Transcarta, Richard works with financial institutions on retail banking and payments strategy. Richard has a BA from Pomona College and an MBA from Stanford University. He is on the board of the Metro-YMCA and the Jane Goodall Institute Singapore.

Roger's a successful entrepreneur and dynamic business leader with a track record of spotting disruptive opportunities, commercializing a business and driving growth. Roger's a Partner with Innosight Ventures, a Singapore-based early-stage venture investment firm, investing in high-potential Southeast Asian ventures. Innosight Ventures leverage more than 20 years of applied research by innovation thought leaders like Clayton Christensen and tools honed through years of fieldwork by the Innosight Consulting Team. Prior to Innosight Ventures, Roger co-founded Webvisions; a successful pioneer in the Pan Asian data center and managed hosting business for small and medium sized businesses. He ran Webvisions as CEO until 2012 after divesting it in 2008 to a private equity group.

Takatoshi Shibayama started Isana Associates in Singapore to focus on investing and advising start up companies. His breadth of knowledge comes from having been a value investor in both the equity and credit market for 15 years, analyzing complicated special situations events of companies. He started his career in JPMorgan Chase Bank in 2001 and since have worked for various investment banks such as Goldman Sachs, Citibank, etc, subsequently working for a US hedge fund Davidson Kempner Capital Management, and most recently co-founding 3D Investment Partners in Singapore focusing on value investing in the Japanese markets. The investment philosophy obtained during those years was; for a successful investment you need to know the beast you stand against. Identify hidden risks, deconstruct them into comprehensive risk parameters and reconstruct the strategy balancing in the risk/reward. This is applicable to any type of investment and he loves to share his views with his portfolio companies and co-investors.

Teo Jock Chin is an Independent Management Advisor with diverse experiences in Sales & Marketing, Product Development, and Market Development. He has worked in some of the most prestigious Fortune Global 500 companies including ExxonMobil, Chevron, Lubrizol Corporation and ConocoPhilips. He has extensive industry network in Asia Pacific especially in CHINA and ASEAN countries with diverse understanding in cultural and business experiences across regions in the MNC environment. He is also in the start-up as a Chief Operating Officer for start-up of TOTACHI brand. Jock Chin graduated from Loughborough University of Technology (UK) in Mechanical Engineering BEng (Hons) and has a Post-Grad Financial Management (GDFM) from Singapore Institute of Management.

Victor Kow has more than 37 years’ experience in senior management functions, human resource management, training & development, management & leadership development, employee relations information technology management and management consultancy in both the public and private sectors in the Asia Pacific region. He has conducted numerous management training courses and carried various management consultancy work in the Asia-Pacific region in both English and Chinese. With a BBus, an MBA and an MSc in HRM. He attended an HRM Executive Development Program with Cornell University and Train the Trainers Program with International Labour Organisation (ILO) among other major professional development qualification programs in his career as an active HR and Management professional. He is a professional Member of Singapore HR Institute as well as a member of a number US Human Resource related professional Institutes.


ERC Institute Mentors:

Alan Go has over 16 years of regional and International sales, marketing and business development experience both as a senior corporate executives and as an entrepreneur largely from the Meeting Incentives Conference and Exhibition (M.I.C.E), B2B trade Services, Education, Internet Technology and Finance Outsourcing Services sectors. A highly motivated lecturer, he specializes in teaching strategies to enhance the sales and marketing management processes to increase mindshare, market share, new market creations and value-innovations for product and services. Alan graduated with distinction from University of Oklahoma, USA with a Degree in Mass Communications majoring in Advertising and Business. He also has an MBA (International) from Edith Cowan University, Australia where he has graduated amongst top 15 percent of his cohort.

Bala has held the position of a tax manager in an auditing firm for almost 8 years, dealing with Singapore tax and Australian tax regime. He also has had lecturing experience for more than 10 years in accounting and business subjects for ACCA, AAT, CAT, LCCI and undergraduate programmes for the University of Tasmania, Victoria University and Murdoch University and University of Portsmouth. Bala has also conducted public seminars in taxation for the Malay Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the ERA Realty Group.

David is an experience marketer with 20 years of experience in advertising, branding, communications and marketing, and 4 years as an entrepreneur. David is also a WDA certified trainer that focuses on problem-based learning that encourages critical thinking and problem-solving skills, challenging the way learners behave and allowing them to practice and improve performance. David completed his Master of Science in Business Management (Marketing) from Edinburgh Napier University Business School in 2015. Drawing on his experience as a company director, head of marketing and an advertising man with fast paced solutions, creative and innovative ideas, facilitate him as both a practitioner and academic lecturer.

Jon began his career in the Treasury Department of a foreign bank for about 2 years. Subsequently, he forayed into the stockbroking industry, first as an investment analyst with Ong & Co, UOB securities and OUB Securities, and then in institutional sales with Cazenove and Co. In 1998, Jon embarked on a career switch to teach Finance, Investment and Economics modules at Singapore Polytechnic.

Jasni Hambali graduated with a BCom and MSc in Logistics. He was a Logistics and SCM practitioner in the oil & gas, petrochemical, and automotive industries for more than 25 years before embarking on an academic career. Since 2006, he has been actively sharing his experiences through lectures and trainings in Singapore and the region (China, Indonesia, Myanmar, Taiwan, and Vietnam).

Yen has a proven track record in various key business development & marketing roles involving evolution and change management. Her pilot roles in various media organisations of Cable TV (Singapore Cable Vision), Regional TV (MTV), Internet Advertising ( and Digital Music (Soundbuzz & Motorola) at their nascent stages is a testimonial of her experience and expertise of driving businesses whilst embracing new technology. Her acumen and passion are evidenced in multiple “first to market” products and projects she has been involved in cutting across from media to digital products. Always pushing the concept of creative solutionism while building strong relationships with customers has translated to dynamic growth for the various companies. Being an ardent believer in change management to stay on top of ever changing economies, her current role as Group Chief Executive Officer of ERC Holdings sees interesting forays leveraged on her experience.
